Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the use of majas hiperbola in the lyrics of the "Lagu Batak" which is an integral part of Batak culture, featuring lyrics rich in meaning and poetic language. One characteristic of Batak songs is the use of majas hiperbola in the lyrics. Majas hiperbola is a figure of speech that exaggerates a statement to provide emphasis, dramatic effect, or humor. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with a stylistic approach. Data were obtained from selected song lyrics, then analyzed using content analysis techniques to classify the forms of hyperbole that appear. The results show that the lyrics contain various forms of hyperbole, used to portray the writer's feelings exaggeratedly depending on the song's theme. The use of hyperbole serves to strengthen the emotional meaning in the lyrics and provides a poetic and dramatic impression on the song. Moreover, this figure of speech enriches the cultural and aesthetic value in Batak songs, making the lyrics not only an artistic expression but also a medium for conveying messages and the philosophy of the Batak people. This study shows that majas hiperbola in lagu Batak Toba is not merely linguistic decoration but also a profound cultural expression.
