Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Author Guidelines

A. Focus and Scope

This journal is a scientific publication dedicated to disseminating original research findings, theoretical studies, and critical analyses in the field of:

  • History: Indonesian History, World History, Oral History, Maritime History, Agrarian History, Intellectual History, Social History, etc.
  • History Education / Teaching: Curriculum and Teaching Material Development, History Teaching Methodology, History Learning Media and Technology, History Learning Evaluation, Character Education through History, and Studies on Students’ Perceptions of History.

This journal is intended for academics, researchers, teachers, education practitioners, and students.

B. Types of Manuscripts

The journal accepts manuscripts in the following categories:

  1. Research Article: Reports of original empirical research that has not been previously published. Structure: Introduction, Method, Results, Discussion, Conclusion.
  2. Review Article: A systematic, critical, and comprehensive review of a specific topic based on recent literature. This article must provide synthesis and new perspectives on the topic reviewed.
  3. Conceptual/Theoretical Article: Articles focusing on the development of theories, models, or new paradigms in the field of history or history education.

C. Manuscript Structure and Format

General Requirements:

  • Manuscripts must be written in standard Indonesian or English.
  • Length: 4,000 – 8,000 words (including abstract, references, tables, and figures).
  • Typed on A4 paper, with standard margins (2.54 cm).
  • Font: Times New Roman, 12 pt, 1.5 spacing.
  • All pages must be numbered consecutively.

Manuscript Components (in order):

  • Title: Clear and informative, maximum 15 words.
  • Author Name(s): Full name(s) without academic titles.
  • Affiliation and Email: Author’s institution and corresponding email address.
  • Abstract: Written in both Indonesian and English (maximum 250 words each). Must reflect the problem, objective, method, main findings, and conclusion.
  • Keywords: 3–5 words/phrases in both Indonesian and English.
  • Introduction: Contains the background of the problem, brief relevant literature review, identification of research gaps, and purpose of the article.
  • Method: Describe the research approach (qualitative, quantitative, mixed-methods, or literature review), data collection techniques, data sources (primary & secondary), and data analysis techniques. For historical research, explain the use of external and internal source criticism.
  • Results and Discussion: Present research findings clearly and systematically. Discuss the findings by comparing them with theories and previous research. Relate the analysis to broader contexts.
  • Conclusion: Summarizes the main findings and implications, both for scientific development and practice (e.g., for history teachers). May also include suggestions for future research.
  • Acknowledgements (Optional): For funders or parties who assisted the research.
  • References: Only include sources cited in the manuscript. Must follow APA 7th Edition.
  • Appendices (if any).

D. Citation and Reference Guidelines

All manuscripts must follow the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 7th Edition (APA 7th). Ensure consistency and completeness before submission.

1. In-Text Citations

  • General format: (Author Last Name, Year)
  • Direct quotation: (Author Last Name, Year, p. xx)
  • Examples:
    • The concept of Indonesia as an “imagined community” has been widely discussed (Anderson, 1983).
    • As Reid (1988) stated, “the physical environment… shaped the lives of Southeast Asians” (p. 45).
    • Several recent studies (Kartodirdjo, 1992; Vickers, 2005) show the complexity of Indonesian nationalism.
    • Ricklefs (2001) argued that internal conflict was a major factor.

2. References

Books, journal articles, book chapters, theses/dissertations, archival documents, personal communications, and online sources must be formatted according to APA 7th. Examples:

  • Book by One Author:
    Reid, A. (1988). Southeast Asia in the age of commerce 1450-1680: Volume one: The lands below the winds. Yale University Press.
  • Book by Multiple Authors:
    Ricklefs, M. C., Lockhart, L., & Lau, A. (2010). A new history of Southeast Asia. Palgrave Macmillan.

E. Publication Ethics

  • Originality: Submitted manuscripts must be the author’s original work, unpublished, and not under review elsewhere.
  • Plagiarism: Authors must avoid all forms of plagiarism. Manuscripts will be checked using plagiarism detection tools.
  • Authorship: All listed authors must have significantly contributed to the research and writing of the manuscript.
  • Conflict of Interest: Authors must declare any potential conflicts of interest (if any).
  • Data and Citations: Authors must cite all sources accurately and honestly.

F. Submission and Review Process

  • Submission: Manuscripts must be submitted online via the journal’s OJS (Open Journal Systems) portal at: [Journal URL].
  • Initial Screening: The editorial team will check manuscript compliance with journal scope, structure, and language standards.
  • Peer Review: Eligible manuscripts will undergo double-blind peer review by at least two reviewers.
  • Decision: The review outcomes may be: (a) Accepted without revision, (b) Accepted with minor revisions, (c) Accepted with major revisions, (d) Rejected.
  • Revision: Authors must revise the manuscript according to reviewer comments within the specified time.
  • Publication: Accepted manuscripts will be edited and processed for publication in the relevant issue.
