Focus & Scope

MASA publishes original scholarly works that contribute to the advancement of history and history education. This journal accommodates empirical research articles, conceptual papers, literature reviews, book reviews, and reports on innovative practices within the following scopes:

1. History Education

  • Curriculum, instructional design, and teaching models across educational levels.
  • Teaching methods, media, and educational technologies (e.g., digital history, multimedia, gamification).
  • Learning evaluation, authentic assessment, competency-based assessment, and classroom action research.
  • Development of teaching materials, modules, and context-based learning resources.
  • Character building and civic education through history learning.

2. Historical Studies

  • Local, regional, national, and transnational history (political, social, economic, cultural, and military).
  • Studies of figures, events, social movements, and institutional transformations.
  • Historiography, historical theory, and research methodologies (archival studies, oral history, digital archives).
  • Public history, collective memory, heritage management, and cultural conservation.

3. Interdisciplinary Studies

  • Research combining historical perspectives with anthropology, sociology, political science, economics, and other humanities.
  • Cross-disciplinary studies exploring the relationship between history, public policy, education, and cultural development.

4. Conceptual Papers & Reviews

  • Conceptual articles offering new frameworks, theoretical models, or critical perspectives in historical studies and history education.
  • Scholarly book reviews, systematic literature reviews, and research syntheses contributing to knowledge development.
  • Best practices, case studies, and innovative experiences in teaching, learning, or historical preservation.

Additional Notes

  1. Manuscripts must be original and not previously published elsewhere.
  2. All articles undergo a peer-review process according to the journal’s editorial policy (double-blind review, review timeline, and publication ethics).
  3. Languages accepted: Indonesian or English (see author guidelines for citation style, template, and submission requirements).
  4. Authors are encouraged to include complete metadata (abstract, keywords, references, institutional affiliation, and author IDs such as ORCID, Sinta, or Scopus).
