This study aims to determine the increase in students' understanding in social studies learning through augmented reality media, to overcome the problem of learning that is still centered on textbook media, does not involve the integration of visualization-based digital media, so that students consider social studies learning to be unrelated to life. This research method uses a classroom action design on class VIII-A students of SMPN 1 Garut. Data collection techniques to measure students' understanding through pre- and post-learning tests, as well as through non-tests with observation and interviews to see changes in each cycle. The results of this study indicate that from the measurement of the cycle I test, the average student understanding was 77.73, cycle II 78.90, and cycle III 83.43, it can be categorized that student understanding has increased. In line with the results of observations and interviews that there are positive changes in students' understanding of social studies material through AR media which are indicated by students' enthusiastic responses in learning to be more active and interactive.
